WPC60-NCC Conference Host

This year we have partnered with the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT) for the organisation of the 1st International Conference for New Cities.

Governor Susan A. Yap is championing this event locally, extending the remarkable Philippine hospitality to all our participants.

Tarlac, a vast land of rice and sugar cane plantations, is at the heart of Philippines’ biggest island of Luzon. It is a multi-cultural province and a melting pot of ethnology-linguistic groups from its north, the Pangasinenses, Ilocanos of Nueva Ecija from its east, the Tagalogs of Zambales from its west and the Kapampangans from its south. Tarlac  is two and a half hours away from the Philippine capital city of Manila. The province consists of seventeen towns and one city – Tarlac City, the capital of the province. It is home to a diverse set of historical, natural and progressive sites and is considered to be one of the fastest-growing provinces among the 80 + others in the Philippines. It thus have a truly promising future.

Governor Susan A. Yap, head of the Regional Government of Tarlac, and our local host, would like to invite and welcome you to our 1st International Conference for New Cities, 10-13 September, New Clark City, Philippines!

Welcome message from the Chair, Local Organizing Committee, Haydee Jacklyn Malubay

In our LOC mind, three (3) major world events will happen a month apart from each other soon. First is the Olympics in Paris this July-August; AND the “Olympics of Planners” – the opening of the 60th World Planning Congress (WPC)/1st International Conference on New Cities in New Clark City (Philippines) this September; and the closing of ISOCARP WPC Diamond series in Siena (Italy) this October. Not only are these exciting, but they are momentous in bringing together many nations under one unified umbrella for a better world.

“Samen,” Dutch term, and “sama-sama,” Filipino word, both for “together,” likewise serve as the underlying philosophy of what was sought to have been accomplished in the past Congresses. The 60th will be the same. Even for the YPP workshops where the clarion call is for
“pakikisama,” Filipino term of being united, together in both challenging and victorious times.

All of us in the LOC are enthusiastically anticipating how our preparations will unfold and translate into one of the most substantive deliberations to deliver thought-leadership on making our world better than when we all first came to it. Beyond this, we commit to a most inclusive, remarkable and unforgettable Planning conference from this part of the East and the Global South.

Welcome to New Clark City! Tuloy po kayo sa Pilipinas! Mabuhay!

Exploring Central Luzon: The Rice Granary and Cultural Heart of the Philippines

Central Luzon, often referred to as the “Rice Granary of the Philippines,” is a vibrant region located just north of Manila. It is known for its rich agricultural lands, producing a significant portion of the country’s rice and other crops. Beyond its agricultural prowess, Central Luzon boasts a diverse landscape that includes scenic mountain ranges, lush forests, and beautiful beaches. The region is also steeped in history and culture, with historical sites, festivals, and a warm, welcoming community that reflects the rich heritage of the Philippines.
